Scott Mitchell, is an Audit Principal at Rogers & Company with more than 20 years of public accounting experience specializing in serving the nonprofit and healthcare industries, including providing audit, accounting, and advisory services to a variety of associations, charities, hospitals, foundations, and other exempt organizations and healthcare providers. Scott also consults with numerous nonprofit boards on accounting matters, best practices, and audit results and recommendations.
With his diverse experience in the tax-exempt industry, Scott brings unique expertise in providing advice and technical guidance to clients regarding their implementation and adherence to new and existing GAAP, as well as ensuring the timeliness, quality, and efficiency of their external audits. He has extensive experience with financial statement preparation, financial analysis and reporting, technical analysis and research, internal control evaluations, and managerial and business expertise. Scott’s experience includes overseeing financial statement audits under both U.S. and international standards; the Uniform Guidance as well as other audits subject to Government Auditing Standards; benefit plan audits, and; agreed-upon procedures. He provides business advisory services to his clients in areas including internal control structure, accounting policies and procedures, contracts and grants management, and governance matters. Scott serves as a member of the firm’s senior management team, and helps oversee adherence to quality control practices, staff development, and firm strategic initiatives.
Prior to joining the firm, Scott worked with several international and regional CPA firms where he worked in the nonprofit and healthcare practices. Scott holds a B.S. in Accounting from William and Mary University. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Virginia, and a member of the American Institute of CPAs, and Greater Washington Society of CPAs.
